General Practice

Dr. Fitzgerald maintains a family based practicing treating conditions from the common cold to chronic disease. This includes, but not limited to, women’s health concerns such as hormone challenges, PMS and menopause, fertility (male and female), gastrointerinal disorders, environmental illness and paediatric health concerns such as allergies, ADHD and ear infections.

Clinical Care Focus: Male and Female Fertility

Issues in fertility, pregnancy, birth and paediatric health are steadily rising in Western countries.  Currently, 1 in 6 couples are infertile, 1 in 5 women will suffer miscarriage, 1 baby in 10 is born prematurely, 1 child in 30 is born with a congential defect and 1 child in 5 has asthma. Our modern lifestyles are thought to be a considerable factor. Environmental pollution, poor nutrient content of soil and food, chemicals, radiation, heavy metal exposure, sedentary lifestyle, weight problems, overuse of sugar, caffeine, alcohol and stress all contribute to declining health, leading to reproductive challenges.  Advancements in conventional fertility treatments have created new opportunities for couples experiencing infertiltiy, however we must acknowledge the addition of hormones, medications and invasive procedures compromise the health of the egg, sperm and resulting embryo.

Health is essential for successful conception. By bringing both prospective parents back to optimal health prior to conception, the likilhood of healthy conception is increased, and the child’s chance of a healthy constitution is optimized. Whether you have been expericiencing feritltiy or reproductive issues or just thinking about conceiving, preconception health care will help you achieve your goal.  Together we can change the health of your family’s future.

Clinical Care Focus: Pregnancy

Pregnancy is an important time to determine the helaath of your baby. Cells are rapdily dividing, and organs and tissues are developing and growing.  A considerable amount of nutrients are required for this development to occur optimally.  Poor nutrition in fetal life has a permanent, detrimental effect on metabolism, hormonal response, immmune function and organ development and increases the susceptibility to disease later in life, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, allergies, asthma, behavior problems and infection.  Optimal nutrition in the mother leads to fewer pregnancy complications (including miscarriage), easier eliveries and recoveries, and less postpartum depression.

Whether you are newly pregnant or close to delivery, a cusotmized plan will ensure your healthiest pregnancy, help manage your symptoms, prepare your body for labor and delivery and give your baby the best start to life possible.
