Clinical Care Focus: Male and Female Fertility

It is estimated that 1 in 5 couples will have challenges conceiving and seek some form of Artificial Reproductive Technology (ART). The maze of hormones, monitoring, and procedures can be overwhelming. It is important to recognise that ART was designed to create an opportunity for sperm and egg to meet, not to improve the quality or DNA integrity of the sperm or egg itself. Often there can be circumstance when combining two genetic imprints creates a recipe for genetic susceptibility in a variety of conditions. Ensuring a comprehensive family medical history, as well as a proactive plan that addresses needs of biochemical individuality is essential for an optimal conception environment.

It is important to know that a pre conception plan for BOTH partners improves successful pregnancy outcomes regardless if the conception is natural or via ART. Male factor infertility accounts for at least half of conception related issues and is also a significant factor in recitative miscarriage.

Clinical Care Focus: Pregnancy

Research is emerging that confirms Maternal health during the prenatal, pregancy, and lactation phases of pregnancy directly influence the expression of genetically inheritable conditions. Preparing a mother for childbirth can greatly improve outcomes for both mother and baby. There are preventative, non pharmaceutical options for effective management of many pregancy related disorders such as: gestational diabetes, nausea, group B strep, repetative misscarrage, preeclampsia, allergies,  and post partum depression. Whether you are thinking about becoming pregnant or if have already concieved an individual plan to support the maternal health and the gestational envorment is essential for optimal health of your baby. Metabolic needs change signifacantly during preganacy, and post partum. Anticipating these changes and taking a proactive approach can greatly reduce risk of pregnancy related disorders. This keeps the mother balanced and healthy throughout the duration of the pregnancy and beyond.
