Hi Karen, great question. If one is allergic, vegetarian or vegan an option is is algae and echium (plant) combination. As always ensure that your product is tested for quality, purity and label claims.

What if you're allergic to fish, or you're vegan? Is there a good alternative? Flax oil?

Oh my God, I now know 100% without a doubt Effexor killed my son. I was prescribed Effexor 150mg perday throughout my pregnancy (and for 9years beofre) for anxiety. Once I found out I was pregnant in Sept.2010, at my very first ob appt I voiced my concern about remaining on Effexor and the Dr told me it was no big deal. I gave birth to my Stillborn son at 36weeks gestation on April 8 2011. Dezmin died of heart defects, fluids on his brain and lung issues. I've done extensive research on "effexor babies" since losing my son and I know that drug killed my son. I have 2other children I had before I ever touched Effexor and they were healthy babies. IF YOU ARE PREGNANT, GET OFF EFFEXOR NO MATTER WHAT YOUR DOCTOR TELLS YOU. I live each day with the guilt of taking medication that ended my sons life before it even began. Angel_6118@yahoo.com

Infant formula indeed has a time and place, but the fact is it has much less nutritional value than its superior, breast milk. Formulas are made up of modified and synthetic ingredients, including synthetic vitamins to make them "nutritious". It does not taste or smell like breast milk, and does not act like it either. I see many differences in the health of infants who are formula-fed vs. breast fed as a result, including allergies, digestive problems, and immune dysfunctions. Even 'trusted' formulas are only recommended when breast milk is not available.
