PANDAS – A must consideration in ADHD

You need to know about this. Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcus = PANDAS. Has your child had strept throat a number of times? Chronic infection can lead to inflammation (heat) in the brain and sometimes it gets so high that it can affect behaviour.

Dr. Kenneth Bock, in Healing the New Childhood Epidemics  (FYI highly recommend the book) describes that when he learned about this condition from the physician who discovered it Dr. Susan Swedo at National Institutes of Mental Health who reported:

  • 50% of kids with ADHD had PANDAS
  • 50% of kids with depression had PANDAS
  • 33% of kids with anxiety had PANDAS
  • Often facial tics and obsessive compulsive behaviours were present as well

Test don’t guess: antistrep antibodies.

I have a question in regards to the percentages you quote. Where can I find supporting links? Are they in Dr. Bock’s book? Thank you.
